Do New Things Everyday (30 Day Challenge)

I read an article that inspired me on how your life can change by doing new things everyday. Sometimes the new things work out in your favor, and sometimes they don't. This is my going to be my personal list where I try to keep up with doing atleast one thing new everyday for thirty days.

Day 1:

• I decided to try a different type of pizza instead of my usual go (i'm a sucker for a margherita slice of pizza 🤤) But instead I tried a eggplant rollatini slice. Not the biggest change in my life to be frank but atleast I tried something new. Margherita still stands at my favorite slice of pizza but here we are. Other than that I ended up going clothes shopping by myself (and I really hate shopping by myself by the way). To my surprise, I luckily found two pairs of shorts that fit. So that was a plus in my book. I also decided instead of uploading actual photos I take on my phone to this website to try a royalty free stock image which looks more aesthetically appealing as a blog image.

Day 2:

• I guess the things i'm doing differently are related too food...😅 I tried barbeque sauce for this first time all year and it isn't as bad as I remember it tasting. I could suppose to say I even I liked it. I also decided to put cream cheese on my toast, which to my surprise I enjoyed as well. Instead of jogging six miles, I decided to walk and jog which actually felt like it made it more enjoyable. I also didn't shave my legs before running even though I was feeling subconscious about it. Still shaved my legs after running but didn't really care as much as I thought I was going too. Finally reached out and typed those scary emails that i've been prolonging. Also looked into other school options but i'm not sure if that's something new. I'd be happy if I could just commit to something and that would be the "new" decision. Still feel as though i'm stuck with indecision.

Day 3:

• I painted my nails for the first time all year.. but trust me they don't look great. Maybe I should just go get a manicure. Ironically enough I have a gift certficate to get one that has been sitting in my drawer for months. Instead of just googling the school options I finally printed some out for one career. I haven't printed out the options for the other career because it's so competitive i'm not sure i'd even be able to get in honestly. I also cried on social media but i'm not sure that was intentional to try new things lmao. Just ended up being really over emotional. It's almost time for the blood moon if you catch my drift.

Day 4:

• I went ocean fishing instead of regular bay fishing. First of all, five people puked on this boat and i'm surprised I wasn't one of them. The rule of the boat was if you had to puke, puke over board. Ocean fishing is a lot different than bay fishing. I ended up catching sea bass for my first time and once again surprisingly even enjoyed it. Even though i'm a pescatarian there are some fish I do not enjoy eatting. I also got the chance to learn and see what a mackerel was. Sounds lame, but it was pretty sweet. It's probably one of the most beautiful fish i've ever seen. I learned that people mostly do not eat mackerel because they don't taste good. Instead, if people do keep mackerel they use them as bait fish for tuna fishing.

Day 5:

• Even though I had already tried emailing other volunteer opportunities I tried emailing more today. I've been getting denied but it's mostly still because of COVID 19. Even if your vaccinated, people are hesitant to allow you into their offices. I keep telling myself if it's mean to be it will be, if not perhaps the career path i'm looking into isn't for me. Proactively trying to trust this process. I also decided to go running without headphones plugged into my ears, which was different. Not sure if I want everyone around me knowing what mile or what my pace is at out loud but different. The positive side was not sweating so much to the point where my head phones normally fall out of my ears and then I have to constantly place them back in.

Day 6:

• I finally stood up for myself, LOL. Basically I needed a schedule in my life and things were getting chaotic because I don't enjoy being on call. So, now I basically have less money but my mental health seems as though I can think a lot clearer. I have a lot to thank in my life for them helping to work, and adjust with me to format a schedule that works around me and everyone else. One stress relief checked ✔️ off the list.

Day 7:

• I bought clothes online from a giftcard I haven't used in forever. I was nervous buying clothes online because I have to deal with the returning process.. going to the store and trying to exchange the clothes for a different size or get my money back. LUCKILY, all the clothes I ordered fit. SO, that was a positive plus. *happy dance inside.

Day 8:

• I played boggle with my mom for the first time in over a year. It was nice. It was raining outside practically all day and there was not much for me to do on my day off. I think my mom honestly just felt bad for me because I looked so bored. My mom also doesn't like to play that game often anymore because she enjoys playing her online word games instead. Needless to say, she still beat me. It amazes me how smart my moms vocabulary is and how quick she is when playing these types of games.

Day 9:

• I bought new hair products. They're suppose to hydrate dry hair as well as protect against heat damage. The last time I bought hair products was probably over 8 years ago. I know, strange. I also haven't gotten a real hair cut in over two years. Maybe that will be another thing on this thirty day challenge list. But, i'm looking forward to and hoping I see some sort of change or difference in my hair after using these new products for a month.

Day 10:

• Okay this one is also exercise related, but I did try a new thing hear me out. I went jogging.... but went jogging with a headband. LORD. I did not know that these things actually work. Wearing a headband while jogging actually captured the sweat. Normally when I go jogging the sweat from my forehead drips down my face and i'm constantly wiping the sweat off with my tee-shirt. I'll have to invest in more head bands after this experience because I only own one.

Day 11:

• I updated my resume, for the first time in two years. It was chaotic though. Somehow when I first tried to re-do it, it was four pages long. I guess I have a hard time summarizing things onto one page. Luckily, with help I was able to get it on to one page. It felt like one of the most stressful moments of my life again. I don't know why little things that are so easy to other people seem so much more complicated to me. BUT nonetheless, my resume is now updated. ^_^

Day 12:

• I ordered six different vegetarian options off the menu from tacobell, LOL. I figured since I ended up not enjoying my original dinner I going to be that guy and just figure out which was my favorite. I ordered the spicy potato soft taco, cheesy fiesta potatoes, bean burrito, black bean quesarito, cheesy bean and rice burrito, and black beans and rice. At the end of tasting and eventually eatting everything, I hands down know my favorite option from taco bell is the black bean quesarito. Sometimes you gotta just splurge and try new things 🤷.

Day 13:

• I went to the beach and actually went into the water for the first time all summer. Also went in the water with my clothes because I didn't think I was going to go in so I didn't wear a bathing suite. Wasn't as cold or weird with my clothes on that I thought it was going to be. Also ordered a fried fish fillet from the beach which I never had before, but I don't think i'll ever be ordering that again LOL. It wasn't bad ,just it literally is what it said it was... a fried fish fillet. It wasn't even on a sandwich.

Day 14:

• I went out to eat a vegan restaurant and it was probably the best vegan food I ever ordered in my life.. spicy tofu. I also went out on a short four hour cruise but I don't think i'll be doing that again. Food was a win, the boat not so much.. maybe if I did that again it would be during the day and not at night time. But I was thankful for the experience.

Day 15:

• I finally went through all my old gift cards.. and I mean old. I even had some from 2013. Little did I know apparently over time when you don't use them the gift cards decrease in value. The lowest gift card amount after scratching the pin off for the first time amounted to the movies for $2.08. Learn something new everyday I suppose.

Day 16:

• I asked for help today because I really needed it. Sometimes you want to just do everything on your own, but you just can't. I'm thankful that I finally asked and vented for the help that I needed and that is probably as much detail as I would like to get into.

Day 17:

• I used my new fitness watch today and I actually love it besides the fact the battery dies so easily. I've never had a watch like this before and it's pretty cool because it can even track my obnoxious sleep schedules. I also wore flip flops that I had only worn once months ago, it was terrible. Not sure why the first time I wore them my feet were fine but the second time not so much. I had cuts between my toes long story short and will not be wearing those again.

Day 18:

• I bought scratch cards for a friend because they were going through a hard time. I think going forward in the future I am going to continue to do this when someone has a really bad day or goes through a catastrophic event in their life. It felt nice to do this for someone else even if they didn't win as much as I bought the tickets for.

Day 19:

• I bought new bed sheets for myself which I haven't done in over a year. It feels different no longer having the bed sheets I use to have but I guess it's a change for the better.

Day 20:

• I cleaned the center console of my car and i'm thankful I did because turns out I had a leaking hand sanitizer in their from a week ago. Half of the bottle emptied onto the rest of the items I had in there. Thankfully the current items I have in there were of little value but still basic necessities when on the go.

Day 21:

• I decided to buy a gift card for a friend by myself and ended up getting lost for over twenty minutes until I asked someone for a map of all the stores. -_- go figure. The plus side of this was I was able to get most of my steps in on the watch for the day. But, it was pretty embarrassing to walk around in circles. I probably should have just asked for a map in the beginning.

Day 22:

• I started reading a new book. It's okay I suppose, at least keeping me busy. That's the thing about buying new books though. You're not sure if you're going to like it or not even if the reviews are high for the book. Still trying to do new things everyday.

Day 23:

• I donated all the clothes i've been meaning to donate for the past year. It's kind of crazy how you can leave something in a room for so long with the attention of doing it and then just never getting around too it. I hope whoever ends up finding, buying or wearing the clothes I donated appreciates them the way I use to in the past.

Day 24:

• I finally wore this shoulder bag I had bought months ago but still never opened. It's funny because it was so pretty wrapped in the clear plastic but that's all it was. Just sitting there, looking pretty. I'm glad I finally used it and will probably use it again now that I have finally opened it. The only negative part of the shoulder bag was for some reason it left a mark on my shirt. It wasn't a cheap bag either so i'm wondering if it was because my shirt was white or because it was so hot out somehow that happened.

Day 25:

• I went to a party even though I wasn't sure I even wanted to go but I went anyways. I actually had a really good time and didn't think I was going to. But i'm overall happy that I went. It makes me think about all the other opportunities i've turned down or said no to in the past.

Day 26:

• I bought myself new socks. I really needed new socks due to the fact half of them were slowly getting small holes in them on the bottom. Not that it's a big deal buying new socks but it is something new I did today. It looks like this journey of doing something new everyday involves me buying different things.

Day 27:

• I rearranged my room. Not sure if I like it or not. I think i'll end up rearranging it back to the way it use to be or just get use to it. I suppose i'll give it a week and then see how I feel.

Day 28:

• Sounds lame, but I actually filled my gas tank all the way today. Normally I'll just put $20.00 into the gas tank and then just fill it again when it gets low. But since it's full now it's lasting me a lot longer and obviously i'll have to get gas less often now. I think i'll continue filling my gas tank completely in the future.

Day 29:

• I exchanged numbers with a female stranger of 62 years old who may be interested in an opportunity. It was nice to have long deep meaningful conversations with this person though and give her daughter advice as well. Not sure how this is exactly going to go, but it was surprisingly nice. If the opportunity works in favor than i'll feel like I did a good deed.

Day 30:

• I redid my wall. Basically tried to fix all the old marks I had on it. I was able to cover up the old marks pretty well but they're still there. Maybe next time i'll try a different method, but for now it works.

Summary

As my thirty day challenge comes to a close, this was honestly not easy. I feel like going forward you should just try to do new things when you get the chance to or just make a list of the things you want too do or eventually should do. Basically, instead of trying to do a new thing everyday just do the new thing when the opportunity presents itself.
